200 POUNDS of tomatoes

You read it right! I have 200 pounds of tomatoes sitting in my kitchen. Auntie Deb wanted to pick and can tomatoes this year. She picks every year, but has never canned. So Saturday Grandma Denslow, Deb, Dad and I went to Underwood farm to a "pick your own" and in half an hour we'd picked 200 pounds of beautiful tomatoes. Deb is coming back up Thursday, and on Friday we are putting them in jars until we are out of jars, then putting them in freezer bags. I gave Deb a tomato plant for her birthday the end of July and she has loved having fresh tomatoes to eat. Amy and Tammy & families are coming today and I think we are going to have Bruschetta - chopped up tomato, onion, garlic, olive oil on toasted skinny buns topped with mozzarella cheese melted over all. Will let you know how it turns out. Amy and Tammy don't like tomatoes, but I think this will be enough like pizza to fool them!!

Mary, I love bruschetta! I am so jealous. Emily doesn't like it for some reason so it never seems to show up on our dinner plates... hmmm maybe over Christmas? Unless everyone eats all 200 pounds of tomatoes before then. That's one of the rough things about being so far away, you miss out on good food!... and good company of course.
