This has been a fast week. I've tried to add pictures for this week but sometimes things just don't work. I'll figure it out when we get to Boston.
Since leaving Teresa's a week ago Monday,
We drove to St. Louis, saw sites and many old buildings.(I like the architecture of old buildings.) Went to the temple there.
Drove to Louisville, Kentucky and went to the temple there. Had a bad experience with the RV park attendants near there. They were RUDE!
Drove to Santa Claus, Indiana. This was a cute little town that has everything in a Santa Claus theme. They also have a large amusement park but mom didn't want to go to. It was a very nice place but our schedule didn't give us time to see the shops.
We then drove across Kentucky on highway 64. It was like binging on a roller-coaster or driving a sports car 90 miles an hour.(Our truck and trailer did well on the roads at 40 to 60 mph. It was a wild ride with hills and sharp turns. Very beautiful.
We ended up at Front Royal Virgina where we stayed four nights in a rustic little RV camp. We were right near the Gooney Creek that made water noise all the time. It was by far the best camp yet even though we didn't have telephone or internet sevices there. A nice place to relax. A cute 80+ year old lady ran it. She was nice and we were the only ones there most of the time.
We got to see some of Washington DC and go to the temple there.
It rained and/or was cloudy most of the time so we didn't get to see much of the Shenandoah mountains. What we did see was absolutely beautiful. Went to church on Sunday and met people who lived in Ojai years ago.
Monday, yesterday, we drove up to Hershey, Penn. and saw the chocolate company. We ate a few pieces of chocolate and had ice cream Sundays. (I've decreased my consumption of chocolate during this trip. Although it tasted great my stomach told me to not to eat so much next time.)
We went to Lancaster where we saw many Amish people and had a very nice dinner.
Today is, drive to the Catskill mountains. (I think that is were Woodstock was?) Maybe we'll see some old hippies.
Tomorrow is the end of the line. We should be in Boston and see Emily & Mike.
What a trip. This has been fun for me as well as Mary. We miss our family and friends back in California and it was hard leaving Teresa but they are constantly on our minds and in our prayers.
At church Sunday, a little girl sat by her dad and then reached up and gave him a hug. I miss those hugs of long ago when my little girls and Ben would climb on my lap and reach for a hug. I miss grand kids' and their hugs too. Can't wait to hold Emily's baby.

Teresa went with us on a day trip to the Omaha (Winter Quarters Temple) last week. It also is nice looking temple. I kept thinking of my great great grandmother and her children who stayed around here during the dreadful winter that the saints had to stay here. I'm so greatful to have been born when I was and not during the pioneer days.

Arrived in Topeka. Here we are at Shawnee Lake Campground.

We went to Dodge City Kansas on our way to Topeka. The restoration was okay but the old Knotts Berry Farm 40 years was a lot better. Not much happening and the town was quiet.

One of the old jails was still up on "Boot Hill". Mary finally let me out.

Back to school for Mary. I had desk similar to these when I was a kid. Cute school house. Cute girl in class.

This might be a small temple and it is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!

These pictures are out of order. I'll figure out that the first one I add to the blog must be the last one to show up on the page. Anyway, we took a hike down into the canyon to ge closer to the "white house" dwelling. It was a nice short hike and the views were spectacular. To think that people actually lived here 800 to 1200 years ago is mind-boggling. How did they do it? Why did they do it? Where did they go?

We started about 7:30 am and came back up a little before 10 am. We stayed down in the valley for about a half hour. It was a fun hike for us.

We are at Canyon de Chilley near Chinle Arizona. There are indian dwellings in the crack along the cliff. We drove along the canyon ridge and viewed 13 lookouts. Each lookout had a different view or different dwellings to look at. I'm amazed anyone could live so high on cliff. Some were near the top but still in the cliffs.

We're thankful for the blessing of this trip. We're having FUN!

I'm very blessed. Mary loves to cook. We ate at a steakhouse and had a very good steakdinner but Mary said she would have rather bought a good piece of meet and cooked dinner in the trailer. She (and sometimes me) have fixed most meals in our kitchen on wheels until we got to Teresa's home. Teresa is also a good cook too. She's fed us and has taken very good care of us.

Can you see the petroglyphs? These were also in the Painted Desert area. Very interesting!

Looks like a tree truck to me but it's a rock.

We went on a 9/10 of a mile walk through this area and saw hundreds of petrified logs. A "must see" on anyone's vacation in this area.

Our second night in Williams was kind of cold. The RV Park employee said it got down to 29 degrees. That's COLD for me! The water hose to the trailer froze solid and this is what our trailer drain looked like. Mary agreed with me that going to Denver might mean more cold wheather so we decided to stay on highway 40 and go to Albuquerque NM and then head for Teresa's home in Topeka, KS. It was a good decision.

Here I am relaxing. I was trying to figure out how to use my DROID. I'm sitting in the rocker that I made for Emily and Mike's baby. It takes up a lot of room in our travel trailer.

Mary's great! She (and I) like our afternoon naps. It's tough getting old. Naps are good and seem to be needed at least every few days.

Mary at the Grand Canyon. She wasn't as adventuresome as she was two years ago. We still had a great time overlooking the edge and seeing the wonderful views.

I think I've gained a little weight or maybe just relocated some of my muscles. I enjoy the Grand Canyon because the view changes every few feet along the path. It's a great place to visit.

Mom found this "roadrunner" and followed it for ten minutes trying to take it's picture. Too bad the camera was on the wrong setting. She chased it the next day too.

We had the camera on the wrong setting so the colors are bad. This is leaving Laughlin as we're heading toward Williams Arizona.

Some areas had great rock formations.

On The Road Again!

Dad is trying so hard to get the Droid and laptop to work together. So far when it does work it is so slow!!! We have had a great time. Saw the Grand Canyon, Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, Canyon de Chelly (home to the cliff dwellers), the Boot Hill Museum in Dodge City. Also did sessions at the Snowflake and Albuquerque Temples. Had a day of very windy weather today. We will be at Teresa's tomorrow.
I just tried to add a photo, but it is not working. So after we get to Teresa's we'll try this again.
